ArmyBassAnglers Pro Dave Behm finished his third event with Angler’s Choice on May 1st with 12 ½ pounds and a 9th place finish—HOOAH!
It was a picture perfect day with sunny skies, warm temps and very little wind at Lake Mohave. Behmtdrew # 24 boat position and watched as all the other competitors left the marina and headed north which was just fine for Dave since he was fishing south. David Pre-fished the previous week and located fish in some coves in about 10 feet of water. These fish were both spawners and some bucks that were finishing with making the spawning beds that the females would utilize. The water temp was still a little cool for May with it just hovering around the 55 degree mark—but the conditions for great for a good start.
Dave traveled about 2 miles in his custom wrapped Skeeter 20I wrapped in Returning Heroes Home theme to his first location; a cove that had numerous bends, deep water and shallow water areas and was protected by the wind. On Dave’s first cast with a ¼ oz scrounger with a smoke colored grub slow rolling it in 10 feet of water his castaway soft touch rod doubled over and in no time Behm had his first 2lb fish of the day. As Dave was following the shoreline towards the back of the cove he found himself in 5 feet of water and started throwing a Lake Fork Tackle 4 ½ ” live magic shad in Rainbow Trout color. In no time Dave had his second fish in the first 15 minutes of the tournament. As the sun started coming up the fish started to head towards deeper water and Dave switched over to throwing drop shots and shaky heads with LFT drop shot weights for the remainder of the day.
Dave caught two more fish both weighing 3 lbs on a drop shot in 40 feet of water with a Watermelon Candy Hyper Wack’n worm suspended about 8” from the bottom. Dave’s last fish came on a shaky head that was tipped with a Hyper Finesse Worm that was also Watermelon Candy. “The products from LFT are all really a hot baits right now. I can’t think of a bait that couldn’t be my “go-to” bait,” stated Behm. Dave had his five fish limit by 1030 in the morning and spent the remainder of the day looking for that one good kicker fish of about 5 lbs. Well that fish never showed itself and Behm finished with 12 ½ pounds and a 9th place finish. Dave stated that this tournament was won with the great lures that Lake Fork Tackle has brought to the table and that his Castaway, Ardent, Oakley, Skeeter all proved priceless during this event, event my new Coalition Rod Glove Covers. We can’t make the stage and share our Mission without the support of these great companies and their products. They truly give us the edge we need to bring in a sack, hit the stage and share the most important message of all—how everyone can get involved and help Returning Heroes Home & the Lone Star Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Nothing is more important than that.”
